The volleyball players of VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen have celebrated another success after three defeats in a row. The team from Saxony-Anhalt came out on top 3:2 (21:25, 26:24, 26:24, 22:25, 15:13) in their last home game of the season against SSC Karlsruhe on Saturday. This means that the Bitterfeld team can no longer be displaced from seventh place. Benedikt Gerken, who was voted the most valuable player, played the biggest part in the success.
The Bitterfeld team showed nerves of steel in their ninth win of the season. After losing the first set, the home side trailed 18:20 in the second and 23:24 in the third. Nevertheless, the hosts were able to turn the tables and were not rattled by the 2:2 equalizer. In the decisive fifth period, the Bitterfeld side were mostly just ahead and saved their lead after 135 minutes of play.
