Timo Werner was already linked with a move to the USA in the summer, and now it seems to be happening - albeit to a team on the other side of the country.

Ex-national player Timo Werner is on the verge of a move to Major League Soccer, according to the US media. The RB Leipzig professional and the San José Earthquakes from the US state of California have almost reached an agreement, reported "The Athletic". The 29-year-old attacker is set to become a top earner in a team that has missed out on the play-offs in each of the last two years.

Most teams will begin their pre-season preparations in the MLS in the next two weeks. Werner could therefore play the entire MLS season if he leaves Leipzig and would not come during the current season like Thomas Müller (Vancouver Whitecaps) or Marco Reus (Los Angeles Galaxy) the year before.

Barely playing minutes at RB

Werner has 57 international caps, but has not been called up for years. At RB Leipzig, the former star player of the team plays no role under coach Ole Werner and has only played 13 minutes on the pitch this season.

The Swabian had already been linked with a move to MLS sister club New York Red Bulls in the summer. The Earthquakes' coach for the past year has been former US national team coach Bruce Arena.
