The Syntainics MBC from Weißenfels missed out on the second European Cup triumph in the club's history. The Bundesliga club lost the semi-final of the European North Basketball League (ENBL) 86:89 (49:22) against Manchester Basketball in its own arena. The MBC now only has the game for third place against defending champions CSO Voluntari on Thursday (5 p.m.). The Romanians were surprisingly defeated by Dziki Warsaw.
Former NBA pro Khyri Thomas was the best scorer for Weißenfels with 23 points in front of 2,300 fans. The home side still struggled in the opening spell, but opened up a double-digit lead for the first time by the end of the first quarter. However, Manchester was on a par in the third quarter at the latest and turned the game around in the final period.
This means that the Fiba Europe Cup won in 2004 remains the MBC's only international title. In the ENBL, they finished the league phase in first place with a 7:1 victory and also mastered the quarter-finals with ease. The Final Four in their own arena was to be the highlight of the European Cup season.
