1. FC Magdeburg remains bottom of the Bundesliga 2. FCM had more chances at KSC, but failed to score and lost by a set-piece goal.

1. FC Magdeburg missed several chances to take the lead in Karlsruhe and lost for the fifth time in a row. In front of 28,337 spectators, the Elbe city team lost 0:1 (0:0) despite a decent performance. Christopher Kobald scored the only goal of the game. After five defeats in a row, FCM remain bottom of the table with three points.

"We played a good game here, had a lot of chances to score that we didn't take advantage of, and then got such a simple set-piece goal," said an annoyed FCM captain Dominik Reimann. But the shot-stopper didn't want to see everything as bad: "If we make the most of our scoring chances, then we're heading in the right direction, unlike last week and the weeks before."

Coach Markus Fiedler introduced three new players to Magdeburg's starting eleven, so once again there was no consistency in terms of personnel for the Elbe club. Magdeburg initially struggled to penetrate the home side's half, but created a few half-chances and had more chances than KSC, but failed to score.

Magdeburg missed out on a half-time lead

After a quarter of an hour, the game mostly took place between the penalty areas. Karlsruhe's Schleusener, who was unable to decisively press an input (37'), and Andreas Müller failed to beat Reimann in the Magdeburg goal. At the other end, Baris Atik missed out on the lead (45.+4).

After the break, FCM were initially the more active team, but their attacking play remained half-baked and there was no sign of an overarching concept. Karlsruhe, on the other hand, produced three shots in three minutes (56th, 57th, 58th) - but Reimann saved each one.

KSC punished Magdeburg's lack of chances

Max Geschwill missed the visitors' lead with a header, failing to beat the KSC goalkeeper after a corner (65'). The hosts became more active, but Magdeburg continued to miss chances up front, with substitute Dariusz Stalmach missing from a free position (79'). KSC, on the other hand, used a set-piece to take the lead: Kobald rose highest and headed in quite unchallenged (84'). Magdeburg once again failed to capitalize on their own chances.
