Short-tracker Anna Seidel will take a break from competition in the coming season. The 25-year-old Dresden native made the announcement on social media on Monday evening. After more than a decade of intense competitions and daily training, she had already realized some time ago "that I have reached a point of physical and especially mental exhaustion," wrote the two-time European silver medalist of 2021 on Instagram. That's why she wants to skip the upcoming season.
She wants to take time "to get back to that spark that has driven me in recent years," Seidel added. She said she is looking forward to her "future journey on and off the ice."
Seidel has competed in three Winter Olympics so far in her career, and she was 15 years old when she made her debut in 2014 in Sochi, Russia. At the time, she was considered an exceptional talent in her sport.
