Defending champions SC Magdeburg remain unblemished in the Champions League. The professional handball team coached by Bennet Wiegert won 39:30 (18:16) at Danish representative GOG Håndbold. Omar Ingi Magnusson was Magdeburg's top scorer with eleven goals.
The opening minutes were characterized by numerous missed attempts on both sides: GOG hit the woodwork several times, Magdeburg failed to score against the opposing goalkeeper, but still led (3:1/8th minute). Both teams then increased their scoring rate, Magdeburg was unable to pull away and GOG finally equalized (8:8/16th minute). The SCM was at a disadvantage in the goalkeeper duel, made a number of technical mistakes and fell behind - but was able to correct that with a double strike at the break.
Game decided after 7:0 run
GOG missed its first attacks after the break and Magdeburg doubled its lead (20:16/32). However, the club in green and red was not able to pull further ahead, as the Danes quickly regained their accuracy. However, the home side played with a seventh outfield player at times and also conceded a goal by Magdeburg's Matej Mandic (27:23/43).
The SCM capitalized on saves by Mandic (eleven in total) and mistakes by the home side to decide the game with a 7:0 run (35:24/52). GOG was then able to put the finishing touches to the result, but SCM remained on course for victory.
