Defending champions SC Magdeburg remain unbeaten in the Champions League. Against RK Pelister from North Macedonia, the team from the city on the Elbe won 36:26 (19:13) in front of 6,267 spectators on Thursday evening. Omar Ingi Magnusson was once again Magdeburg's top scorer with ten goals. Magdeburg continues to lead Group B without losing a point and is two points ahead of its closest rivals FC Barcelona.
The SCM was without the ailing Oscar Bergendahl at the heart of the attack, was defensively solid as usual and took an early lead (6:3/10). The visitors called a timeout, SCM then missed a number of attacks and Pelister tied the scores. Magdeburg was not impressed, struck back and led by six goals at the break.
Magdeburg's spurt in between decides the game
After the break, SCM lacked a little momentum in attack and the visitors reduced the deficit to four goals. Magdeburg did manage to score, but failed more often against the visitors' goalkeeper. SCM initially prevented the visitors from catching up further with a reliable Magnusson shot from the 7-meter line and then went on a 6:1 run to pull nine goals ahead (27:19/45). SCM travels to TSV Hannover-Burgdorf in the Bundesliga on Sunday for its fourth game in eight days.
