The first second division home win in 1456 days puts Dynamo in a good position ahead of the Christmas break. However, an apparently serious injury puts a damper on the joy.

Alexander Rossipal again, Vincent Vermeij again, another Dynamo victory. Just like a week ago in Bochum, the duo each scored a goal, which was enough to secure a 2-1 (1-0) win in the basement duel against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Rossipal (45th minute) scored before the break, Vermeij (54th) afterwards. Christian Rasmussen (84') scored the equalizer for Düsseldorf. After the first home win of the season in front of 30,817 spectators, Dynamo left the relegation places and dragged Fortuna even deeper into the cellar.

Grill injury tarnishes the victory

It was bitter for Dynamo goalkeeper Lennart Grill, who was injured through no fault of his opponent and had to be carried off the pitch with an ankle injury. As the quota of substitutes was exhausted in stoppage time, Aljaz Casar had to step into the box. However, he had nothing to do in those few moments. "The injury spoiled the joy of the win," said captain Niklas Hauptmann.

Dynamo coach Thomas Stamm had sent out the same team that had won 2-1 away at VfL Bochum a week ago. However, the Saxons were miles away from the performance shown there, particularly in the first half, before the break. Dresden's play had little fire, the team acted timidly and there were many miscommunications and lack of concentration in midfield.

As a result, chances were in short supply. In the eighth minute, Luca Herrmann narrowly missed the triangle with a 20-metre shot, Niklas Hauptmann (32) was blocked twice before putting the third effort over the bar.

The visitors, coached by former Dynamo coach Markus Anfang, also had the advantage on the pitch without being able to capitalize on it. Tim Breithaupt (35) missed the target with a shot and two headers from Cedric Itten (24/40) either missed the net or hit the far post.

The Dynamo lead came as a surprise. Konrad Faber was sent down the right wing, the former Düsseldorf player Vermeij missed in the center, but Rossipal (45) was completely free behind him and netted his third goal of the season. On the other hand, they left Rossipal completely free once during a Dynamo attack, who had no trouble finishing.

Stamm complains about "moments of surplus numbers"

There were enough chances after that to put the lid on it. But they were missed. "We have to make it 3-0 in three moments of overpayment," grumbled Dynamo coach Stamm, who was otherwise relieved that the first home win had worked out. "The fans had to wait so long for this," emphasized Hauptmann. Instead, Fortuna scored after a moment of carelessness.
