Bundesliga basketball club Niners Chemnitz has suffered a setback in the battle for the play-offs in the Eurocup. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore clearly lost 81:97 (44:60) at Montenegrin series champions Buducnost Podgorica. Kostja Mushidi was the Niners' best scorer with 19 points, as they maintained sixth place for the time being despite their eighth defeat in their 16th game.
The club from Chemnitz got off to a furious start. They drained four threes in the first four minutes and quickly pulled 16:8 ahead. Podgorica then also found its rhythm in offense and repeatedly exploited its physical advantages under the basket. With a 17:0 run, the home side turned a 34:35 deficit (12th minute) into a 51:35 lead (17th minute) against the Niners, who were flagging badly.
After the break, Podgorica stretched its lead to 68:46 (24th minute) and so already ensured a preliminary decision. The home side's concentration then waned noticeably, with the result that Chemnitz was able to put the finishing touches to the game.
