The Saxons suffered a weak spell in the second quarter and were always trailing after that.

The Niners Chemnitz basketball team have lost their first game in the Champions League. The team from Saxony lost 81:87 (42:47) on the road at Derthona Baskets from Tortona, Italy. Former Bundesliga player Tommy Kuhse, who scored 22 points, played the biggest part in the home side's success. Three other players also scored in double figures for the home side. New signing Oliver Nkamhoua (19) scored the most points for Chemnitz.

The Saxons took control after a sleepy start. After trailing 2:7 (3rd minute), they pulled away to 32:26 (14th minute). However, the Italians turned the game around with a 19:6 run and led 45:38 after 19 minutes. The Niners chased that deficit in vain until the final whistle.
