The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has missed out on the quarter-finals of the BBL Cup. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore lost the round of 16 game at league rivals Rasta Vechta by 86:89 (40:34) after leading by 18 points at one stage. Corey Davis Jr. and Kostja Mushidi were the Niners' best scorers with 16 points apiece.
After a bumpy start, Chemnitz pulled away in the first quarter with a 10:0 run to lead 19:9 (9th minute), but was not able to maintain that level and trailed 24:27 in the 15th minute. The Niners regained their accuracy from beyond the arc by the break and recaptured the lead.
The visitors pulled 52:34 (23') ahead with a 12:0 run at the start of the second half. However, Vechta benefited from the fact that the Niners' intensity dropped significantly. The outstanding Alonzo Verge Jr. (38 points) was no longer to be stopped and put Rasta 78:75 in front with three minutes remaining. Chemnitz still had the chance to force overtime with its last attack, but Ty Brewer's three-pointer was a touch too late.
