Second division side 1. FC Magdeburg fall back into old patterns against Elversberg after conceding the first goal - and fall apart towards the end. There are huge problems in both offense and defense.

1. FC Magdeburg are still not fit for the second division and remain bottom of the table. The club lost 4-0 (0-2) to SV Elversberg in front of 21,884 spectators and conceded their sixth defeat in a row. Bambasé Conté (23), Tom Zimmerschied (45), Otto Stange (74) and Jarzinho Malanga scored for Elversberg.

Center-back Jean Hugonet was at a loss after the game: "That was bottomless today. We had maybe 15 good minutes and then nothing at all." FCM coach Markus Fiedler also seemed helpless, when asked about the repeated mistakes he said at the press conference: "I can't explain it to them. These are moments that leave us all at a loss - the players, the coaching team". Before the game, sporting director Otmar Schork emphasized that he was behind the coach, saying on Sky: "For me, the content is important, there is a unity there. The international break will do us good."

Magdeburg punish weaknesses in tackling

Magdeburg did not look rattled at first, but the chances they created ended up with the visitors' goalkeeper Kristof (11th, 13th minute). Elversberg established themselves in Magdeburg's penalty area for a long time after set-pieces, winning practically all second balls - and Conté used one of them to take the lead. In particular, the FCM's defense on the wing did not work at all. The goal they conceded swept away what little confidence Magdeburg had and FCM barely got into the tackles - including before Zimmerschied made it 2-0.

After the break, Elversberg remained active, did not pull back despite taking the lead and put Magdeburg under pressure from time to time. FCM lacked a concept to even get into a finishing position. A shot from Rayan Ghrieb went wide of the goal (58'). Magdeburg then had more to do with preventing Elversberg attacks than initiating their own - and conceded further goals on the counter-attack.

Magdeburg lack a plan

During the international break, Magdeburg have more areas to work on than they have for a long time. Neither in defense nor in attack has FCM been able to prove its suitability for the second division in recent weeks. The weakest defense in the league with 19 goals conceded meets weak performances in attack - this is the fifth time Magdeburg has failed to score. It is possible that those responsible at FCM will pull the ripcord despite all the confessions.
