The Spanish-born central defender already has a German past. He has already gained international experience as a youth player at VfL Wolfsburg.

Second division soccer club 1. FC Magdeburg has a new central defender. Anselmo García MacNulty strengthens the Blue-Whites' defense. The 23-year-old most recently played for PEC Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie.

"Despite his young age, he has already gained valuable experience and has been a consistent regular at his previous clubs. With his positive mindset, his strong left foot and his physical presence at 1.90 meters, he will further strengthen our defense," said FCM sporting director Peer Jaekel in a club statement.

Born in Seville, MacNulty played in the youth of Betis until 2019, after which he moved to VfL Wolfsburg. He played regularly for the U17s and U19s, including in the Youth League. After a one-year loan to Dutch second division club NAC Breda, he signed permanently with Eredivision club PEC Zwolle.
