Handball Bundesliga team SC Magdeburg confidently reaches the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup. At second-division team TV Großwallstadt, an intermediate spurt before the break already brings the preliminary decision.

Bundesliga handball team SC Magdeburg has reached the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup. The team from the Elbe city won 45:27 (23:11) at second-division team TV Großwallstadt. Magdeburg's top scorer was Philipp Weber with eight goals.

The favorites from Magdeburg got off to a focused start and led by three goals early on (4:1/5). Großwallstadt worked its way into the game, benefiting from the SCM's occasional lapses in concentration, but Magdeburg cut the deficit to 10:5 (13'). However, the club from the city on the Elbe still did not manage to take control of the game, losing possession and making technical mistakes too often. Consequently, SCM's Head Coach Bennet Wiegert called for "more intensity" in a timeout - and Magdeburg pulled away with an 8:2 run up to the break.

After the break, SCM made changes in several positions and gave goalkeeper Matej Mandic and captain Christian O'Sullivan match practice. Even though Großwallstadt reduced the deficit minimally, SCM remained clearly in control (26:15/36). A further Wiegert timeout brought more momentum back into the team and Magdeburg extended its lead to 15 goals (32:17/43) and finally decided the game.
