Defending champions SC Magdeburg remain unbeaten in the Champions League. On matchday 11, SCM secured an early place in the quarter-finals with a win against GOG.

Defending champions SC Magdeburg have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League ahead of schedule. They beat Danish representative GOG 37:30 (17:15) in front of 6,240 spectators. Magdeburg's top scorer was Omar Ingi Magnusson with six goals. After eleven wins in eleven games, SCM now has 22 points and will duel with FC Barcelona (20) for group victory in the remaining three group games.

Both sides began with a lack of concentration in offense: The visitors missed five of their first seven attacks, while Magdeburg produced several technical errors (4:2/7). The home side built a four-goal lead, but repeatedly made mistakes in offense. The Danes took advantage of that to equalize (14:14/26). However, SCM still led by two goals at the break.

Decision after the break

After the break, SCM quickly pulled four goals ahead again, with goalkeeper Matej Mandic adding a goal (20:16/34). With strong work in defense, the club from the city on the Elbe repeatedly managed to force the Danes into weak positions or to make mistakes. Felix Claar opened up a five-goal lead for the first time; Magdeburg now had the game clearly under control and won unchallenged. Manuel Zehnder - who will move to GOG in the summer - made his SCM comeback in the final quarter of an hour after tearing his cruciate ligament.
