Olympic champions Yemisi Mabry and Malaika Mihambo secured the victories at the athletics meeting in Dresden. Mihambo jumped 6.87 meters after initial problems with her run-up, while Mabry finished first in the shot put with 19.21 meters.
A week ago in Rehlingen, Mabry, who is known by her maiden name Ogunleye, was beaten by Sweden's Fanny Roos, who finished second this time with 18.73 meters.
New surname still unfamiliar
She had not yet really got used to her new surname on the scoreboard, said Mabry and enthused: "The wedding was unique." With her performance, the Paris 2024 gold medal winner sees herself on the right path to the European Championships from August 10 to 16 in Birmingham. "Bit by bit," said Mabry. "Today, 19 meters was the goal."
Mihambo started with three invalid attempts and then went straight to the top with 6.72 meters. She then added 6.87 meters and even jumped five centimeters further than a week ago in Rehlingen. "My form is good, I haven't had any big jumps yet, but a lot of solid jumps after the indoor season, which was a bit bumpy," said the 32-year-old.
