RB Leipzig will be without regular goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi for around six weeks. The 35-year-old tore a ligament in his left knee during the 2-2 draw against VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday. This was announced by the Bundesliga club after an MRI scan on Monday. An operation is not necessary for the time being.
"The diagnosis is bitter, but we know Pete as an absolute professional with a great mentality. He will therefore do everything in his power to come back quickly and stronger," said Head of Sport Marcel Schäfer.
No goals conceded
Gulacsi suffered the injury in the first half without any opponent influence. The Hungarian former international was substituted after 29 minutes and was replaced by Belgian Maarten Vandevoordt. Gulacsi had only extended his contract with the Saxons by one year last week. According to dpa information, the plan is for the veteran to become the number two in the coming season and support the Belgian Vandevoordt.
In this Bundesliga season, Gulacsi has kept nine clean sheets in 22 games so far. That is the second-best tally in the league after Dortmund's Gregor Kobel (eleven times).
