Danny Röhl is back in the RB universe. The Leipzig-trained coach is taking over at Red Bull Salzburg, where he is the top choice.

Danny Röhl takes over as head coach of Red Bull Salzburg. The 37-year-old, who previously served as an assistant coach alongside Hansi Flick at FC Bayern and with the German national team, is returning to the RB family from Glasgow Rangers and has signed a contract with the Austrian club through the summer of 2029. According to reports, a transfer fee of around two million euros is due. The club will introduce him to the public this afternoon, after Röhl had already led his first training session.

Röhl was Salzburg’s top choice for head coach

“Our stated goal was to have our new head coach in place by the start of preseason training. We’ve succeeded in doing that by signing Danny Röhl, our top choice,” said sporting director Marcus Mann, adding: “We’re convinced that his playing philosophy and his approach to developing players are a very good fit for the style we want to play with FC Red Bull Salzburg.”

Röhl succeeds Daniel Beichler at Red Bull Salzburg, who was let go in mid-May after three months and a third-place finish in the league. Röhl, a native of Zwickau, worked in RB Leipzig’s youth system starting in 2011 and was promoted to assistant coach under Ralph Hasenhüttl in 2018, before both Hasenhüttl and Röhl were forced to leave.

Given his development and the strong work he’s done as head coach of Sheffield Wednesday and the Glasgow Rangers, this is now the next step. Last summer, Röhl was also in talks with RB Leipzig before Ole Werner took over.
