1. FC Magdeburg have beaten their away curse in Dresden and thoroughly spoiled the start to the Bundesliga 2 season for newly promoted Dynamo. The Saxony-Anhalt side won 2-1 (2-1) away from home on matchday 2 for the first time in 25 years.
In front of 31,405 spectators, Jean Hugonet (28th minute) put Magdeburg ahead with a header. Christoph Daferner (44th minute) equalized. Martijn Kaars (45.+1) restored the visitors' lead before the break, which held until the end. Dynamo are thus still waiting for their first points.
Magdeburg efficient in finishing
After a long period of feeling out, Magdeburg tried to force Dresden into mistakes by pressing hard. However, they only succeeded through a set piece. A corner from Baris Atik ended up with Hugonet, who headed the ball into the lead.
Dynamo took a while to even create a chance. This also led to immediate success when Daferner successfully dusted off the ball. But the visitors still had something in their quiver in the first half. Atik again stunned the Dresden defense and Kaars only had to slot home.
It was only in the final stages of the game that Dresden created a chance after a goal by Kaars was disallowed for offside following a video review. However, the home side were unable to equalize again because the visitors' defence, which had many legs, defended consistently.
