Fàbregas's Heartfelt Words on the Cancer Diagnosis of a Como Soccer Player

Shortly before their historic first Champions League match, a devastating diagnosis has shaken Leipzig’s Italian opponent, Como 1907. Coach Cesc Fàbregas found moving words to describe the situation of Roberta Picchi from the club’s women’s team, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“We wish her all the best and we stand by her side, no matter what happens. We are a family and we stand firmly together. We embrace her and will be by her side every step of the way,” said the 39-year-old. On Thursday, Como will host RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Following the diagnosis, the club extended the 34-year-old’s contract through 2028 so she could focus on her treatment without worry. “You shouldn’t take anything for granted,” Picchi wrote on Instagram. “I’ll be back and even hungrier.”
