Martin Männel put an end to FC Erzgebirge Aue's horror series against SC Verl. After six defeats in a row, the Saxons managed a 1-1 (0-1) draw on matchday 14 of the 3rd division. Allesio Beio (27) had put the hosts ahead. Jonas Arweiler (72) scored an own goal for Aue.
In a turbulent opening quarter of an hour, there were clear chances for both sides. The club from the Erzgebirge could thank goalkeeper and captain Männel that they did not fall behind when Berkan Taz and Oualid Mhamdi (4th) and Besio (10th) had the best opportunities. At the other end, Julian Guttau (8) volleyed a ball into the goal from distance, but Philipp Schulze in the SC goal was just as strong as his counterpart.
Aue lose control of the game
From the 25th minute onwards, Verl took command and pinned the Violets back in their half for almost the entire time. Consequently, they took the lead. Even after that, there was hardly any relief for the Aue backline.
After the changeover, the picture was similar to that at the start of the match. Aue held their own again, but also had to be careful. Männel (53) prevented a bigger deficit with another save against Dennis Waidner. However, there was no longer the collapse after 20 minutes. On the contrary: Aue became more courageous and also had some good chances. Jannic Ehlers (70) and Guttau (71) had chances immediately before the equalizer.
The goal they conceded woke Verl up. Mhamdi (75) tested Männel once again. There were chances for both sides in the closing stages. Substitute Erik Weinhauer even missed a possible Auer victory by a hair's breadth in stoppage time.
