Dynamo Dresden ended their home curse and won at home for the first time in this second division season. They beat Fortuna Düsseldorf 2:0 (1:0) to lift the Saxons out of the relegation places. Alexander Rossipal (45') had put the home side ahead and former Düsseldorf player Vincent Vermeij (54') extended the lead in front of 30,817 spectators. Christian Rasmussen (84') then managed to tie the scores.
In injury time, Aljaz Casar had to replace the apparently seriously injured Lennart Grill in the Dynamo goal as Dresden's contingent of substitutes had been exhausted. Fortuna now have to look even further down the table after the defeat and are now just one point ahead of the relegation zone.
Anfang's return to his former stomping ground
On the return of coach Markus Anfang to his former stomping ground, both teams put in rather below-average performances before the break. The game had little fire and both teams acted anxiously. In addition, there were many misunderstandings and lack of concentration, particularly in Dynamo's midfield.
The fact that the Saxons still went into the break with a lead was partly due to the visitors' lack of chances, with headers from Cedric Itten (25th/40th) either missing the target or only hitting the far post. On the other hand, the Düsseldorfers left Rossipal completely free once during a Dynamo attack, who had no trouble finishing to make it 1-0.
After the break, Fortuna keeper Florian Kastenmeier initially had a lot of trouble with a shot from Jakob Lemmer (50'), but he was powerless against Vermeij's goal shortly afterwards. Düsseldorf then opened up and allowed Dynamo to counter-attack, but played out poorly. There were hardly any chances for Fortuna themselves because the Dresden defense with its many legs defended consistently. Only Rasmussen's header looked out of position.
