Dynamo Dresden failed to move to within one point of third division leaders SV Sandhausen. The team coached by Thomas Stamm also failed to score in their third home game in a row and had to settle for a 3:3 (0:1) draw against Rot-Weiss Essen.
Manuel Wintzheimer (37th minute) had put the visitors ahead after a counter-attack. In front of 29,836 spectators, Niklas Hauptmann equalized immediately after the restart. On the counter-attack (47'), Julian Eitschberger scored a solo goal to give the visitors the lead immediately.
Jonas Sterner (78') equalized again before Kelsey Owusu Meisel (80') scored what was supposed to be Essen's winning goal. However, Stefan Kutschke scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure a deserved draw.
Dresden's insecurity after the negative experiences of recent weeks was palpable. The Dynamos were unable to come up with much against the visitors, who played with nine outfield players in front of or in their own penalty area. Attempts to cross to Christoph Daferner were headed away by the tall central defense around Michael Schultz and former Dresden player Tobias Kraulich, and the crosses were often too inaccurate.
