Dynamo Dresden missed out on another surprise in the 2nd Bundesliga. The promoted team lost 2-0 (0-1) at league leaders Darmstadt 98 on Friday evening. The Dresdeners had already toppled a top club twice this season.
Swede Isac Lidberg scored his seventh goal in the seventh game of the season for Darmstadt in the 37th minute. After the break, it took less than three minutes for Scotland's Fraser Hornby (48') to make it 2-0.
In front of 17,810 spectators, however, the favorites initially had a bit of luck. Dresden started boldly and were the better team in the first 20 minutes.
Wrong passes invite Darmstadt
The leaders only created chances to score when their opponents invited them to do so. In the 28th minute, Dynamo goalkeeper Tim Schreiber played the ball right into the feet of Lidberg, who did not yet accept the gift. A misplaced pass from Niklas Hauptmann then preceded Darmstadt's 1:0.
After that, Dresden had nothing more to offer the league leaders. Darmstadt were now very self-confident and confident. The attacking duo of Hornby (57) and Lidberg (60) failed twice more against goalkeeper Schreiber.
