The Dresden women's volleyball team has reached the round of 16 in the European CEV Cup. The team of coach Alexander Waibl won the first round against the Spanish champions and Supercup winners CV Gran Canaria 3:0 (25:21, 25:15, 25:23) at home on Wednesday after a 3:0 first leg victory. In the next round, the team from the city on the Elbe will now face SSC Palmberg Schwerin in a Bundesliga clash.
In front of 1963 spectators, the Dresden side put their opponents under pressure with their tasks, the DSC ladies also showed themselves to be variable in attack from a stable reception and they were tactically well set up in blocking and field defense. In the first set, Waibl's charges needed a little time to adjust to their opponents' changed line-up and made a few service errors. In the second set, they played their game much more confidently. By winning the second set, their place in the round of 16 was out of their reach. Although Alexander Waibl gave some players from the second row a chance in the third set, this also went to the DSC in the end and after a total of just 64 minutes, the victory was perfect.
