Kai Kazmirek is calling it quits as a decathlete. The 34-year-old can look back on a great success - and can look forward to the next generation.

Kai Kazmirek has ended his career as a decathlete. The 34-year-old announced this on his Instagram channel. "It's time to say goodbye!" wrote the Saxon-born athlete, who competed for LG Rhein-Wied. Kazmirek celebrated his greatest success in the decathlon in 2017 at the World Athletics Championships in London when he won the bronze medal.

"For over 15 years, I was able to live my dream as a decathlete and get to know unique personalities and places. This time has shaped me a lot and made me the decathlete I always wanted to be. A decathlete who never gives up, who deals with defeats and, above all, a decathlete who loves what he does," explained Kazmirek.
