The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has reached the next round of the Champions League. Although the Saxons lost their game at Benfica Lisbon on Tuesday by 68:79 (31:45), they were able to relegate the Portuguese team to last place in preliminary round Group G thanks to the direct comparison. The Saxons had won the first leg 103:75 (57:33) in their favor.
The outstanding Trey Drechsel (34 points), Makram Ben Romdhane and Ahmaad Rorie (10 each) played the biggest part in the hosts' success. Olivier Nkamhoua (17), DeAndre Landsdowne (14) and Aher Uguak (12) scored the most points for Chemnitz.
The visitors missed the start and trailed by 4:13 after seven minutes. At 31:47 (21:47), the German club was even threatened with elimination after the first round. Up to then, the Niners had not been able to hit a single one of their eight attempts from beyond the three-point line. The German club fought its way back to 54:59 by the end of the third quarter and so laid the foundation for progressing.
