A total of 133 German championship titles in 20 sports will be awarded in Dresden at the finals from July 31 to August 1. Preparations are in full swing, according to a press conference at the Semper Opera House.
The nine sports venues are located within a 3.5-kilometer radius of the city centre. The Frauenkirche, in front of which the champions in 3x3 basketball or speed climbing will be determined, or Theaterplatz as the archery venue and finish line for the triathletes, offer spectacular backdrops for the spectators, who can get up close to the athletes. Some sports, such as coastal rowing and flag football, will be included in the event's program for the first time.
Saxony's Sports Minister Armin Schuster symbolically handed over a cheque for one million euros to Dresden's Sports Mayor Jan Donhauser during the press conference, symbolizing the state's funding decision to support the 2025 finals.
A boost for sport
"Saxony is an outstanding sporting state and hosting the finals in Dresden is a further boost for our grassroots and elite sport. With the funding decision of one million euros handed over today, we are sending a strong signal: we are making a targeted investment in the future of sport and our recruitment of young talent in Saxony," explained Schuster.
At the fifth edition, ARD and ZDF will also broadcast around 30 hours in a joint production - this year under the leadership of ZDF - in the main programs and current affairs programs of the two broadcasters. In addition, there will be coverage online, in ARD's radio programs and around 100 hours of streams in the media libraries of the two broadcasters.
