Defending champions SC Magdeburg never let any doubts arise at bottom club Zagreb. The SCM particularly shone from the wing positions in their eighth win in their eighth group game.

Bundesliga handball club SC Magdeburg has also won its eighth game in the Champions League. The defending champions won 43:35 (22:14) at HC Zagreb. Magdeburg's top scorer was Matthias Musche with eleven goals. Magdeburg remain top of Group B without a loss and can secure a place in the knockout round next week.

Both teams struggled to score at the start, with just two goals after five minutes (1:1/5th). The game then picked up pace and the SCM pulled three goals ahead (7:4/12th minute). Magdeburg kept on scoring, especially through the wingers Tim Hornke and the recovered Musche. The visitors from the Elbe led by eight goals at the break.

The game also needed a little time to get going after the break. SCM was a little sloppy in its finishing, but the fundamental balance of power did not change. Magdeburg consistently punished mistakes by the Croatians and extended its lead to nine goals at one stage. Sebastian Barthold then replaced Musche with a quarter of an hour to go, but Magdeburg remained consistent, did not switch to administration mode and won in commanding fashion.
