Big points in the relegation battle: Dresden beats Kaiserslautern

Dynamo Dresden have landed a very important victory in the relegation battle in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Saxons won 1:0 (0:0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Vincent Vermeij scored the decisive goal in the 68th minute for Dynamo, who increased the gap to the relegation places to at least four points.

After a ten-minute feeling-out phase, Dresden set the first accents. Niklas Hauptmann (13') failed to beat Lautern goalkeeper Julian Krahl after a counter-attack, while Robert Wagner (15') narrowly missed the FCK goal with a long-range shot.

The visitors, who were severely short of substitutes after numerous absentees, were initially intent on protecting their own penalty area and only launched tentative attacks of their own. As a result, the first half was largely devoid of highlights. Ben Bobzien (38') found his marker in Krahl after a fine combination.

Dresden the more active team

The game continued to lull along after the break. It became dangerous for the Palatinate side, who now played a little more actively going forward, when the dribble-strong Hauptmann, Bobzien and Jason Ceka got going. However, they often separated themselves from the ball too late.

Nevertheless, Dresden's lead was more than deserved. In a situation of superior possession, Alexander Rossipal found Vermeij at the far post, who only had to push the ball over the line. The goal livened up the game noticeably and Kaiserslautern now had to do more, but were unable to equalize.
