The contrast at Dynamo Dresden in the game with and without the ball remains a source of annoyance for coach Thomas Stamm. "We have solutions with the ball, I'm concerned with playing against the ball. We've focused extremely much on defense this week, at the end of the day it's my job to make sure we get it right," Stamm criticized after the lucky 3:3 (1:2) against Karlsruher SC, in which he included himself.
On their fourth attempt, Dynamo again failed to secure a home win after being promoted back to the 2nd Bundesliga. Even worse: With 16 goals conceded, the Saxons are the league's shooting gallery together with Eintracht Braunschweig.
He doesn't see a fundamental problem with set pieces, Stamm asserted, but he recognizes the cause: "We want to press too early, i.e. create ball pressure instead of closing down the middle. We need to be more patient and find a better structure defensively". Lukas Boeder emphasized that they need to work on "simply being more stable after taking the lead and generally conceding fewer goals. We're working on that".
Dynamo missed the early lead against KSC through Nils Fröling (8th minute) almost immediately. Marcel Beifus (11) equalized for the visitors with the first away goal of the season. Lilian Egloff (37) added another before the break. Although Christoph Daferner (52) equalized, Fabian Schleusener (61) put Baden back in front before Dynamo celebrated a late point through Jakob Lemmer (90+2).
"It's the little things"
"Today we have to be happy that we managed to equalize. Otherwise we'll be left empty-handed again," said Daferner and emphasized: "We were better in the second half. We can keep up in every game, it's just the little things."
Without the suspended Vinko Sapina, the home side got off to a furious start in the top match. Fröling was not tackled near the penalty area and simply took a shot, the ball bounced in front of goal and it was 1-0 to Dresden.
First away goal for KSC
But KSC also made the most of their first chance: defender Beifus headed straight into the corner from a good eleven meters after a corner. But that was not enough. After a defensive error, Egloff took the lead with a deflected shot to the delight of the 3,000 visiting fans.
After the changeover, Daferner initially came into focus. First, he scrambled a ball from Christop Kobald off the line after a set-piece, then he scored from close range after a counter-attack following a pass from Jonas Oehmichen to make it 2:2. He then even missed the opening goal. KSC were more ruthless. Schleusener put the ball into the net with his outside of his foot. But Dynamo never gave up and were rewarded in stoppage time by substitute Lemmer.
