Without top striker Benjamin Sesko, who has moved to Manchester United, RB Leipzig messed up their dress rehearsal for the season. The Saxons lost their final test match before the start of the competitive campaign at French first division club RC Lens 2:1 (0:0).
Adrien Thomasson (59th minute) and Matthieu Udol (64th) both scored with a header for the hosts. Loïs Openda (83) only managed to score the equalizer on his return to his old stomping ground. The 25-year-old Belgian moved to Leipzig from Lens in 2023.
RB will play their first competitive match of the season next Saturday in the DFB Cup at fourth-division side SV Sandhausen. On August 22, Leipzig will then face record champions FC Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga opener.
