After five games without a win, 1. FC Magdeburg have won again. In front of 11,047 spectators, they won 1-0 (1-0) at Jahn Regensburg. Mohammed El Hankouri (10) scored the early lead before FCM largely lapsed into passivity. Goalkeeper Dominik Reimann was the match-winner in the end, saving a penalty from Christian Viet (89').
Magdeburg were without the in-form Jean Hugonet (yellow card suspension) and Tobias Müller replaced him in central defense. Martijn Kaars also returned to the front line after serving his suspension. Magdeburg tried to take control of the game early on, but the hosts repeatedly made small pinpricks. Then FCM struck: Samuel Loric played El Hankouri in the middle, who scored with a back-heel to take the lead (10th minute).
The early goal initially made little difference to the game, Magdeburg took a little more time in their build-up play and Regensburg continued to try and generate momentum. Magdeburg made mistakes and lacked concentration, but the hosts were rarely able to capitalize on them. Overall, FCM became increasingly passive - the most goal threat came from a free-kick by Marcus Mathisen, which Gebhardt saved (26').
