An estimated 450,000 people in Saxony care for relatives at home. A poster campaign is now intended to draw attention to support services.

The Saxony specialist service center wants to use a poster campaign to draw attention to the challenges faced by family caregivers and the support services available. The occasion is the Day of Caring Relatives on September 8, as announced by the Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs. The poster campaign is intended to highlight regional contact and advice centers for carers. The offers include a café for relatives, a sports or walking group and a discussion group.

In Saxony, more than 310,000 people in need of care are currently cared for at home, the ministry added. An estimated 450,000 relatives are therefore taking on care work. "Caring relatives are the backbone of home care and make an invaluable contribution to our society," said Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (SPD). "Day after day, they do great things, often quietly, often in secret."

The Saxony Specialist Service Center has been working on behalf of the Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs since May 2019. It is the point of contact for everyday support, neighborhood assistance and everyday support services. It receives an annual budget from the Saxon budget to implement its mandate. Around 500,000 euros are available in the 2025/2026 double budget.
