Up to 720 people celebrated Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Döbeln. At the same time, a counter-event by right-wing groups with around 90 people took place in the town in central Saxony, according to the police. Although the gatherings were largely peaceful, a total of seven criminal offenses were recorded.
According to the police, investigations were launched because a 41-year-old man made a Hitler salute from a window. Three cases were investigated on suspicion of incitement to hatred due to songs played during the counter-protest. After a punch was thrown at a 17-year-old by as yet unknown perpetrators, a complaint was filed on suspicion of bodily harm. In addition, charges have been filed for suspected damage to property and insult.
Around 300 officers were involved in the operation. The Chemnitz police department was supported by the Saxon riot police.
Last year, there had been an attack with butyric acid at the CSD in Döbeln. The foul smell was intended to keep CSD participants away, according to the investigating state criminal investigation office.
