According to the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband, more people are living below the poverty line in Saxony than previously assumed. If the costs of rent, heating and electricity are taken into account, 873,000 people in the state are affected by poverty, according to the association.
22 percent of the population in Saxony have an income of less than 60 percent of the median income adjusted for housing costs and are therefore considered poor. According to these calculations, the threshold value for a one-person household is 1,088 euros.
