The Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony will open in December under the title "Tacheles". Many events have already been scheduled. Applications for funding for further contributions can now be submitted.

The Year of Jewish Culture 2026 in Saxony is taking shape. It is to be opened on December 14 with the start of the Jewish festival of lights Hanukkah under the title "Tacheles" in Chemnitz. "Preparations are in full swing," explained Saxony's Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU). "Jewish culture in Saxony was and is incredibly diverse. It is part of the history and self-image of our Free State today." They are looking forward to making this diversity tangible and visible throughout Saxony.

Applications for funding a cultural contribution for the Year of Jewish Culture can be submitted to the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony from now until September 1. More than 100 events have already been confirmed and testify to the great interest shown by cultural actors and institutions. "We have been supporting art and cultural projects dedicated to Jewish life in Saxony for many years," emphasized Manuel Frey, Director of the Cultural Foundation. The focus of the current funding program is on projects with supra-regional appeal.

The theme year is supported by the Free State of Saxony under the leadership of the State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism. The project team is based at the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology in the former Schocken department store, a central site of Jewish-Saxon history.
