The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is soon to be given a new name. No reason to quit for the party founder, who wants to continue her involvement afterwards.

BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht wants to carry on after renaming her party. "The BSW is a project close to my heart and is urgently needed. I will of course continue to be involved in the party even after it has been renamed," the 56-year-old told the Leipziger Volkszeitung and Sächsische Zeitung newspapers. It was clear from the outset that the name Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht was to be a temporary solution. "It was initially necessary in order to establish the BSW. We succeeded," said Wagenknecht.

Wagenknecht left the Left Party in October 2023 after a long dispute and founded the BSW in early 2024. The party is part of the state governments in Thuringia and Brandenburg. In the federal elections in February, the BSW narrowly missed out on entering the Bundestag.
