Several thousand volunteers have registered as election assistants for the super election year in Saxony's cities - but the search continues. "The willingness of Leipzig residents to volunteer for democratic elections is extremely high," said the City of Leipzig's Office for Statistics and Elections on request. In Leipzig, more than 6,300 election workers have already registered for the European and local elections on June 9 and the state elections on September 1. Reserve positions are currently still being sought, particularly for areas on the outskirts of the city and for counting postal votes.

Willingness is also high in the future Capital of Culture Chemnitz. According to the city, the electoral boards are currently full. However, as registered electoral assistants regularly cancel or drop out, around 200 volunteers are still needed for each election day.

The city of Dresden announced on Thursday that it was still looking for around 1,000 helpers. Around 5000 people have registered so far. The need is particularly great in Bühlau/Weißer Hirsch, Leuben, Kleinzschachwitz, Großzschachwitz, Laubegast and Weixdorf. But more helping hands are also welcome in other districts.
