The Left Party wants to table a three-digit number of amendments to the Saxon CDU-SPD minority government's draft budget for 2025/2026. "We cannot agree to this government draft and are very skeptical as to whether it can be made acceptable," said parliamentary group leader Susanne Schaper skeptically. The aim is to keep the state together, especially in times of crisis.
Leftists demand reversal of cuts in several areas
"That is why our focus is on what Saxony needs now. Our priority is to prevent cuts to civil society actors in the areas of promoting democracy, sport, integration and the fire department," emphasized Schaper. In order to create more affordable and barrier-free housing in times of rising rents, the funding programs must be significantly increased.
Other demands include more staff for daycare centres, financial relief for local authorities, investments in hospitals, support for the elderly and consumer protection. The demand to allow loans for investments remains a priority. Schaper emphasized that the CDU must move on this issue.
The CDU-SPD minority government in Saxony is ten votes short of a majority in parliament. The Left Party has six MPs, the Greens seven and the BSW 14. These two parliamentary groups also do not want to unconditionally approve the minority government's draft budget for 2025/2026.
