Saxony honors civil society efforts to integrate young people with a migration background. The Sterntaler Prize is awarded by the Kinderschutzbund and the Free State of Saxony.

The Sterntaler Prize 2024 goes to the "KOMMunity Kids" initiative of the Familie(n)leben association in Dresden. With this award, the Child Protection Association and Saxony's Commissioner for Foreigners recognize the special integration work with children and young people. The award, which is endowed with 3,000 euros, will be presented in the state parliament next Tuesday, according to the press release. The prize money is to be used for the continuation of the project or a subsequent project. This year, 19 initiatives across the country applied for the award.

Themed afternoons in problematic neighborhoods

"KOMMunity Kids" is a multilingual storytelling and play program with which the association regularly reaches 30 to 40 children and young people in a socially disadvantaged residential area of Dresden's Old Town. The afternoons, which are organized by two full-time staff and several volunteers, are tailored to their interests. This year, the events will each focus on one of the children's rights in a playful way.

The Sterntaler Child Protection Prize has been awarded annually since 2015. It is awarded to initiatives or individuals who are particularly committed to the integration, participation and promotion of minors with a migration background - or against their disadvantage.
