Porcelain from Meissen, craftsmanship from the Ore Mountains and Christmas music: the German President surprises the British royal couple with these gifts during their visit to London.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier also brought gifts from Saxony on his state visit to the UK. As announced by the Office of the Federal President, the Federal President and his wife Elke Büdenbender presented the royal couple King Charles III and Queen Camilla with a Christmas gift basket along with other presents.

These included six handmade Christmas tree baubles made from Meissen porcelain as well as a nutcracker and a tea light pyramid from the Erzgebirge. The record "Bald nun ist Weihnachtszeit" with classics sung by the Leipzig St. Thomas Boys Choir and the Dresden Kreuzchor, among others, was also presented in London.

The gifts were exchanged following a lunch at Windsor Castle, it was reported. The three-day state visit, during which Steinmeier will also meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is the first in 27 years. The last German President to receive this honor was Roman Herzog in 1998. However, Steinmeier and Charles have seen each other repeatedly in recent years. Their relationship is described as good and cordial.
