Only Bavaria and Saxony do not yet have it - statutory educational leave. A good 55,000 signatures have been collected for this. The vote in the state parliament is likely to be close.

The Saxon state parliament is to vote on the planned educational leave today (from 10.00). The bill was submitted in the form of a popular petition, for which more than 55,000 signatures were collected. It originally provided for five days. As a compromise, it is now to be three days. Alongside Bavaria, Saxony is the only federal state in which the legal entitlement to educational leave does not yet apply. Business associations and local authorities campaigned against the plan until the very end. There is also a rift in the state parliament - even within parliamentary groups.

Dissenters in the ranks of the CDU

Sören Voigt, Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU parliamentary group, expects six to seven dissenters in his own ranks. One MP is also ill. Voigt nevertheless assumes a majority, as only one parliamentary group has clearly spoken out against it so far - the AfD. However, the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance is also divided. The parliamentary group wants to allow its MPs to vote as a conscience decision. The SPD, Greens and Left want to vote in favor of educational leave. Non-attached MP Matthias Berger, who sits in parliament for the Free Voters, is against it.

Health Minister issues specialist government statement

At the beginning of the state parliament session, Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) issues a specialist government statement on the situation of medical care. At the request of the BSW, the state parliament's topical hour will focus on Germany's relationship with the USA. In a further debate, the SPD wants to campaign for the Yad Vashem Educational Center for Holocaust Remembrance to be established in Saxony. The third topic of the current hour comes from the Greens and revolves around genetic engineering. The AfD is proposing an amendment to the Press Act and wants to ensure that in future the imprint of a medium clearly states whether a party is behind it.
