Science Minister Gemkow is focusing on more start-ups from research. The path from idea to company is to be made easier. However, there is criticism from the opposition about reduced funding.

Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow wants to usher in a "new start-up era" in Saxony. The CDU politician said in a specialist government statement in the Saxon state parliament that they are working on a science innovation law. The aim is to make the path from research to setting up a company easier and more attractive.

Gemkow: "New start-up era" in Saxony

"Saxony should experience a new start-up era in which courage, entrepreneurial spirit and scientific excellence go hand in hand," said Gemkow. He emphasized the role of science in the Free State as a driver of the economy and social progress. The planned annual budget of more than two billion euros for 2025 and 2026 is an investment in Saxony's future.

The coalition partner SPD also emphasized the importance of science as the "lifeline" of the state. However, Gerald Eisenblätter said that the successes of recent years were not a foregone conclusion. In times of crisis, freedom of science must be defended.

AfD and BSW call for fewer bureaucratic hurdles

The AfD parliamentary group leader Jörg Urban also spoke out in favour of a start-up period, but criticized excessive bureaucracy. He called for drastic tax cuts and for company founders to pay nothing at all at the start. The BSW also criticized the growing challenges posed by bureaucracy and administration. Jörg Scheibe said that bureaucracy was making it difficult for scientists and entrepreneurs to do their actual jobs. He spoke out in favor of investment grants.

Greens and Left criticize cuts

The Green parliamentary group called for financial planning security for universities and research institutions in Bavaria. "However, the current double budget has cut back on research funding and universities in particular," said Claudia Maicher. This is slowing down scientists. The Left Party also criticized the cuts. Deputy parliamentary group leader Luise Neuhaus-Wartenberg said that cuts would primarily affect teaching.
