As a sign of solidarity, the flag of Israel has been flying in front of the Saxon State Chancellery in Dresden since Tuesday. The Free State of Saxony stands by Israel, the state chancellery announced. "The people of the Free State are in thoughts with the victims and their families." The ministries could decide for themselves whether to raise the Israeli flag in front of their official buildings. The Islamist Hamas had attacked Israel massively on Saturday. The warlike clashes have since claimed thousands of lives and injured.
