After another defeat in the state elections, the extra-parliamentary FDP in Saxony is in a phase of rebuilding. At the Epiphany meeting, the party shows itself to be combative.

In the opinion of the Saxon FDP, the state must once again focus on its core tasks. "We need a lean state again," explained Torsten Herbst, the Liberals' top candidate for the federal elections in Saxony, at the traditional Epiphany meeting in Bischofswerda. We need a state "that focuses on what people cannot do on their own, on education, infrastructure and security".

Herbst: Germany needs renewed confidence

According to Herbst, Germany needs renewed confidence that it can achieve something on its own. "Apprentices need to be sure that their training company will still exist in a few months' time, families that they have a chance of home ownership. A strong FDP in the next Bundestag will fight for this and campaign for a real economic turnaround."

Germany is experiencing a phase of recession and increasing state overregulation, emphasized Herbst, who has been a member of the Bundestag since 2017. "There is an urgent need to provide bold, liberal answers to our country's future issues. The Liberals want to rise to the challenge and ensure a loud Saxon voice in the next Bundestag."

The FDP has not been represented in the Saxon state parliament since 2014. In the state election on September 1, 2024, it reached a historic low of just 0.9 percent.
