Christiane Schenderlein headed the Culture and Media working group during the coalition negotiations. She has been given a new post in the new government.

Saxon CDU member of parliament Christiane Schenderlein is to become Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering in the future federal government. The prospective chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) presented the CDU cabinet list during a meeting of the party's executive committee in Berlin.

Schenderlein has been a member of the Bundestag for the district of North Saxony since 2021. She is the CDU/CSU's spokesperson for culture and media. During the most recent coalition negotiations, the 43-year-old headed the working group for culture and media alongside Volker Ullrich (CSU) and Carsten Brosda (SPD). Schenderlein has been a member of the ZDF Television Council since 2020.

Before the Bundestag elections, German sports leaders had campaigned vehemently for the creation of the post of Minister of State for Sport in the Federal Chancellery. The German Olympic Sports Confederation hopes that this will provide "an advocate within the federal government".

The German Football Association also called for "a voice for sport" in order to bundle the various areas of sports policy. Until now, sport was formally part of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
