More and more people with foreign roots are living in Saxony. According to statistics, however, their proportion in the Free State is still comparatively low.

Saxony remains well below the national average in terms of the proportion of foreigners in the population. At the end of 2023, 331,866 foreigners were living in the state. This corresponds to 8.1 percent of Saxony's population, according to the Commissioner for Foreigners Geert Mackenroth. Nationwide, the proportion is 15.2 percent.

However, the rate has also risen significantly in Saxony in recent years. Ten years previously, the Free State had a foreigner rate of just 2.5 percent. The average age of foreigners in 2023 was 32.3 years, well below the average for the German population (48.1 years).

According to statistics, 2,604 foreigners were naturalized in Saxony in the previous year, 428 more than in 2022. 3,278 foreign doctors from 106 nations were registered with the Saxon State Medical Association. The proportion of foreigners in the civil service was only 0.6 percent with 581 foreigners.
