Ballot papers already printed in two constituencies in Saxony have to be destroyed because they are faulty. The period for postal voting is now becoming even shorter.

Due to faulty ballot papers, the mailing of postal voting documents for the Bundestag election in the Erzgebirgskreis district has been delayed. The ballot papers delivered since Monday for constituencies 162 - Chemnitzer Umland-Erzgebirgskreis II - and 163 - Erzgebirgskreis I - are unusable and must be destroyed, the district administration office in Annaberg-Buchholz announced.

According to the information provided, the error has already been corrected in consultation with the commissioned printing company and a reprint has been arranged. They are working flat out to deliver the corrected ballot papers for the Bundestag election to all towns and municipalities as quickly as possible, said district electoral officer Alexander Haentjens according to the press release.

Only when these are available can the towns and municipalities start sending out the postal voting documents. These are then expected to arrive with eligible voters from February 10. The delay will further shorten the already shorter period for postal voting due to the early election. Saxony's state election director Martin Richter had recommended that the documents be posted by February 19 at the latest.
