Philipp Preißler from the Free Voters is the new mayor of the city of Freiberg. The candidate prevailed against his rivals in the second round of voting and received 45.96 percent of the vote in the evening after a preliminary count.
In the first round of voting at the end of September, none of the five candidates achieved an absolute majority. The voters in the city of around 41,000 inhabitants were therefore called to a second ballot.
The individual candidate Stefan Krinke withdrew his candidacy after the first ballot. CDU candidate Steve Ittershagen also wanted to declare his withdrawal, but this was not recognized due to a formal error. Ittershagen therefore ended up on the list of candidates again.
Christian Pudack (Freiberg for All) was also in the running - he received 24.89% of the vote in the second round. Jens Uhlemann from the AfD received 18.48%.
The election for the new mayor of the city of Freiberg had become necessary because the previous mayor, Sven Krüger (non-party), is now the district administrator for the district of Central Saxony.
